RESUMO

What is already known about this topic?: Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) represents a significant public health challenge globally, not only inflicting harm on the health of individuals but also placing a considerable economic strain on society. What is added by this report?: This study represents the inaugural report on the potential reduction in economic burden attributable to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevention strategies in Tianjin. Between 2011 and 2022, it is estimated that effective measures could prevent 2,965 new HIV infections and avert 658 deaths, resulting in an economic benefit of approximately 14.437 billion Chinese Yuan. What are the implications for public health practice?: The findings of this study offer valuable evidence to inform the development of localized HIV prevention and control strategies, as well as to guide public health policymaking.

RESUMO

In China, few molecular epidemiological data on hepatitis C virus (HCV) are available and all previous studies were limited by small sample sizes or specific population characteristics. Here, we report characterization of the epidemic history and transmission dynamics of HCV strains in China. We included HCV sequences of individuals belonging to three HCV surveillance programs: 1) patients diagnosed with HIV infection at the Beijing HIV laboratory network, most of whom were people who inject drugs and former paid blood donors, 2) men who have sex with men, and 3) the general population. We also used publicly available HCV sequences sampled in China in our study. In total, we obtained 1,603 Ns5b and 865 C/E2 sequences from 1,811 individuals. The most common HCV strains were subtypes 1b (29.1%), 3b (25.5%) and 3a (15.1%). In transmission network analysis, factors independently associated with clustering included the region (OR: 0.37, 95% CI: 0.19-0.71), infection subtype (OR: 0.23, 95% CI: 0.1-0.52), and sampling period (OR: 0.43, 95% CI: 0.27-0.68). The history of the major HCV subtypes was complex, which coincided with some important sociomedical events in China. Of note, five of eight HCV subtype (1a, 1b, 2a, 3a, and 3b), which constituted 81.8% HCV strains genotyped in our study, showed a tendency towards decline in the effective population size during the past decade until present, which is a good omen for the goal of eliminating HCV by 2030 in China.

RESUMO

Objective@#To investigate the detection of HIV/AIDS cases in medical institutions in Tianjin Municipality from 2005 to 2021, so as to provide insights into optimization of HIV antibody testing strategies in medical institutions.@*Methods@#All data pertaining to individuals receiving HIV antibody tests in medical institutions in Tianjin Municipality from 2005 to 2021 were collected from the information systems in medical institutions and the HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Information System of Chinese Disease Prevention and Control Information System. The positive rate of HIV antibody and epidemiological characteristics of HIV/AIDS cases in medical institutions were analyzed.@*Results@#The number of HIV antibody tests increased from 86 102 person-times in 2005 to 1 369 345 person-times in 2021 in medical institutions in Tianjin Municipality, with annual increase by 18.88%. The positive rate of HIV antibody increased from 2.44/104 to 2.85/104 (P<0.05), with annual increase by 2.79/104. Both the proportion of the number of HIV antibody tests and the number of HIV/AIDS cases detected by medical institutions in the whole city appeared a tendency towards a rise (P<0.05). A high positive rate of HIV antibody was seen in sexually transmitted disease clinics (53.69/104) and other testing services (12.25/104), and the highest positive rate of HIV antibody was seen in individuals at ages of 20 to 39 years (5.40/104), while the positive rate of HIV antibody was higher in men (5.84/104) than in women (0.53/104) (P<0.05). A total of 3 610 HIV/AIDS cases were detected in medical institutions in Tianjin Municipality from 2005 to 2021, with a median age of 38 (interquartile range, 24) years. Of all HIV/AIDS patients, there were 3 277 men (90.78%), and men who have sex with men was the predominant transmission route (63.46%), while the proportion of late identification of HIV/AIDS cases was 65.60%. In addition, the proportion of timely detection for the first CD4+T lymphocyte count testing increased from 23.81% in 2005 to 71.54% in 2021 (P<0.05).@*Conclusions@#The number of HIV antibody tests and positive rate of HIV antibody appeared a tendency towards a rise in medical institutions in Tianjin Municipality from 2005 to 2021. The HIV/AIDS cases were predominantly identified in sexually transmitted disease clinics and other testing services, and were predominantly men.

RESUMO

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is one of the most important business strategies which helps enterprises obtain competitive advantage and improve performance. Scholars have conducted many beneficial studies on the driving factors of CSR behaviors from the perspective of CEO traits, but rarely focus on the impact of the CEO's early family experiences. This study aims to fill this research gap by investigating the influence of CEO birth order on firms' CSR behaviors, and further exploring the possible moderating effects of the presence of a female sibling and the age gap between the CEO and the closest sibling. This study takes Chinese non-financial private listed companies from 2010 to 2017 as the research samples, and empirically tests the relationship between CEO birth order and a firm's CSR behaviors. The empirical results show that CEO birth order negatively influences corporate social responsibility behaviors, and this relationship would be weakened when the CEO has a female sibling or the age gap between CEO and the closest sibling is larger. This paper extends the research on personal family factors from the field of social psychology to the business field and finds a new driving factor of corporate social responsibility behavior from the perspective of the CEOs' early family factors.

RESUMO

Innovation investment is crucial to enterprise development and economic growth. As peer enterprises face similar market environment and development prospects, they pay attention to the innovation activities of peer enterprises in the industry because of economic rationality or the idea of seeking advantages and avoiding disadvantages. This paper aims to investigate the interaction and channel of enterprise innovation behavior of peer effect based on the data of Chinese share-listed enterprises from 2010 to 2021. The results show that peer effect exists in the innovation behavior of enterprises. We also provide evidence that managerial ability is the mechanism of the peer effect of enterprise innovation. In addition, we find that small-scale enterprises are more likely to be affected by the innovation behavior of peer enterprises compared with large enterprises. More importantly, we reveal that economic policy uncertainty significantly negatively regulates the peer effect of enterprise innovation. JEL classification: G30, G31, O31.

RESUMO

The microeconomic behavior of enterprises is influenced by the government system and its policies. In this article, we investigate how environmental regulation and environmental decentralization affect enterprise environmental protection investment using the data of China's listed companies from 2009 to 2020 and examine the effect of environmental decentralization on the relationship between environmental regulation and environmental protection investment. First, we find that there is a "U-shaped" relationship between environmental regulation and enterprise environmental protection investment. Second, the estimation results indicate that environmental decentralization can promote enterprise environmental protection investment. Finally, we further provide evidence to show that environmental decentralization has a negative moderating impact on the relationship between environmental regulation and enterprise environmental protection investment. Accordingly, the conclusion of this study is helpful to optimize the environmental decentralization management system, reasonably guide the local government behavior, alleviate the contradiction between environmental protection and economic development, and promote the green transformation of economic development mode.

RESUMO

HIV subtypes convey important epidemiological information and possibly influence the rate of disease progression. In this study, HIV disease progression in patients infected with CRF01_AE, CRF07_BC, and subtype B was compared in the largest HIV molecular epidemiology study ever done in China. A national data set of HIV pol sequences was assembled by pooling sequences from public databases and the Beijing HIV laboratory network. Logistic regression was used to assess factors associated with the risk of AIDS at diagnosis ([AIDSAD], defined as a CD4 count < 200 cells/µL) in patients with HIV subtype B, CRF01_AE, and CRF07_BC. Of the 20,663 sequences, 9,156 (44.3%) were CRF01_AE. CRF07_BC was responsible for 28.3% of infections, followed by B (13.9%). In multivariable analysis, the risk of AIDSAD differed significantly according to HIV subtype (OR for CRF07_BC vs. B: 0.46, 95% CI 0.39─0.53), age (OR for ≥ 65 years vs. < 18 years: 4.3 95% CI 1.81─11.8), and transmission risk groups (OR for men who have sex with men vs. heterosexuals: 0.67 95% CI 0.6─0.75). These findings suggest that HIV diversity in China is constantly evolving and gaining in complexity. CRF07_BC is less pathogenic than subtype B, while CRF01_AE is as pathogenic as B.

RESUMO

Green finance is one of the most important ways to help companies achieve green transformation and development. We construct a quasi-natural experiment with the "Green Credit Guidelines" and establish a difference-in-differences model to empirically test the implementation effect of the green credit policy in China. The results show that after the implementation of China's green credit policy, the debt financing scale of listed companies in heavily polluting industries has decreased significantly, the debt financing cost has increased significantly, and the debt financing maturity has been shortened significantly, indicating that the green credit policy has inhibited the debt financing of heavily polluting enterprises. We further find that this inhibition has also been affected by the nature of controlling shareholders, environmental information disclosure levels, regional environmental regulations and regional financial development levels. China's green credit policy has played a role in guiding listed companies to go green through the redistribution of debt financing.

RESUMO

Corporate social responsibility is an important business strategy for enterprises. Scholars have conducted much beneficial research on the relationship of executives' recognitive traits and firms' CSR behavior, but rarely focus on the impact of executives' early recognitive traits derived from family sibling interaction. This paper takes Chinese A-shared private listed companies from 2014 to 2017 as the research samples to investigate the effect of the number of executives' siblings on the early family sibling and corporate social responsibility behavior. We further study the moderating effect of birth order and gender composition in siblings on this relationship. The results show that there is an inversed U-shaped relationship between the number of executives' siblings and corporate social responsibility behavior. Further research shows that the relationship between the number of executives' siblings and CSR behavior is strengthened when an executive is first-born or has female sibling(s).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In Tianjin, China, there is a relatively high prevalence of HIV in men who have sex with men (MSM). The number of HIV cases in Tianjin is also increasing. We investigated the HIV molecular transmission network, genetic tropisms, and drug resistance mutations in Tianjin. METHODS: Blood samples were collected from 510 newly diagnosed antiretroviral therapy (ART)-naïve HIV-1-infected subjects among MSM in Tianjin. Partial pol and env genes were sequenced and used for phylogenetic, genetic tropism, and genotypic drug resistance analyses. Molecular clusters were identified with 1.5% genetic distance and 90% bootstrap support. RESULTS: Among the 436 HIV-1 pol sequences obtained from the study participants, various genotypes were identified, including CRF01_AE (56.9%), CRF07_BC (27.8%), B (7.3%), CRF55_01B (4.1%), unique recombinant forms (URFs) (3.7%), and CRF59_01B (0.2%). A higher prevalence of X4 viruses was observed in individuals infected with CRF55_01B (56.3%) and CRF01_AE (46.2%) than with other subtypes. Of all 110 sequences in the 36 clusters, 62 (56.4%) were observed in 23 CRF01_AE clusters and 18 (16.4%) in four CRF07_BC clusters. Eight sequences clustered with at least one other shared the same drug resistance mutation (DRM). In different cluster sizes, the distributions of individuals by age, presence of sexually transmitted disease, and presence of DRMs, were significantly different. CONCLUSION: We revealed the characteristics of HIV molecular transmission, tropism, and DRMs of ART-naïve HIV-infected individuals among the MSM population in Tianjin. Identifying infected persons at risk of transmission is necessary for proposing counseling and treating these patients to reduce the risk of HIV transmission.

RESUMO

China has 747,000 confirmed HIV/AIDS cases and sexual transmission between men who have sex with men (MSM) is the most prevalent mode of transmission. Our study aims to (a) examine HIV prevalence and behavioral risk factors for HIV infection among 1900 MSM recruited from a community-based organization in Tianjin, China, and (b) describe HIV treatment outcomes for those diagnosed with HIV. We used multivariable logistic regression to identify which socio-demographics and behaviors were associated with HIV infection. The overall HIV prevalence was 3.95%. Key behavioral risk factors included: receptive sex role, older age at first sex with man, condomless anal sex, and having used 2+ drugs. Of those living with HIV, 83% were successfully enrolled in antiretroviral therapy and those enrolled were all virally suppressed after one year. These findings highlight key behavioral risk factors for HIV infection in Tianjin, China and can inform interventions to preventing further HIV transmission.

RESUMO

HIV prevalence and incidence is high among men who have sex with men (MSM) in China, underscoring the need to support and optimize HIV risk reduction strategies for this population. We sought to estimate the prevalence of condomless anal sex among MSM living in Tianjin, China. We recruited 595 HIV-negative MSM living in Tianjin to participate in a HIV study between 2013 and 2014. Data were collected after a voluntary counseling and testing session through a face-to-face survey. We used multivariable logistic regressions to examine the association between sociodemographic characteristics and HIV risk correlates and MSM's likelihood of engaging in condomless anal intercourse with main and casual partners in the prior 6 months. Results are presented. HIV risk reduction efforts should be developed to be sensitive and responsive to the unique experiences of Chinese MSM. We discuss opportunities for future work, including the development HIV risk reduction interventions.

RESUMO

Tyroserleutide (YSL) is an active, low-molecular-weight polypeptide, comprised of three amino acids, that has shown antitumor effects on human hepatocarcinoma BEL-7402 in vitro and in vivo. In this study, we evaluated the inhibition of YSL on invasion and adhesion of the mouse B16-F10 melanoma cell line by injecting B16-F10 cells into the tail veins of C57BL/6 mice to establish an experimental lung metastasis model. YSL inhibited B16-F10 cell metastasis to lung, reducing the number and area of metastasis lesions. When we treated B16-F10 cells with YSL (0.01, 0.1, 1, 10, or 100 microg/mL) in vitro, we found that YSL inhibited the proliferation of B16-F10 cells with a 28.11% rate of inhibition. YSL significantly decreased the adhesiveness of B16-F10 cells to Matrigel with a 29.15% inhibition rate; YSL also significantly inhibited the invasion of B16-F10 cells, producing an inhibition of 35.31%. By analyses with Western blot and real-time RT-PCR, we found that YSL markedly inhibited the expression of ICAM-1 in B16-F10 cells. These data suggest that YSL inhibits the growth, invasion, and adhesion of B16-F10 cells.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE: Tripeptide compound tyroservaltide (YSV) has obvious inhibitory effect on experimental liver cancer. This study was to evaluate the inhibitory effect of YSV on the invasion and metastasis of mouse melanoma cell line B16-F10. METHODS: The cytotoxic effect of YSV on B16-F10 cells was assessed by MTT assay, and the effects of YSV on the adhesiveness and invasiveness of B16-F10 cells were determined using Matrigel and a transwell system. B16-F10 cells were injected into the tail veins of C57BL/6 mice to establish an experimental lung metastasis model, and the effect of YSV on lung metastasis was observed. The effect of YSV on the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) in lung tissue was detected by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: YSV (100 microg/ml, 48 h) inhibited the proliferation of B16-F10 cells, with an inhibitory rate of 24.36%; YSV (100 microg/ml, 24 h) inhibited the adhesiveness of B16-F10 cells to Matrigel, with an inhibitory rate of 36.51%; YSV (10 microg/ml, 48 h) inhibited the invasiveness of B16-F10 cells, with an inhibitory rate of 36.53%; YSV [640 microg.(kg.d)-1] inhibited lung metastasis by B16-F10 cells, with an inhibitory rate of 62.21%. The expression of ICAM-1 in lung tissue was lower in YSV group than in normal saline group. CONCLUSION: YSV can inhibit the growth, invasion, and metastasis of B16-F10 cells.

RESUMO

Tyroservatide (YSV) is a bioactive tripeptide of tyrosyl-seryl-valine. In this study, we studied the effects of YSV on human hepatocarcinoma BEL-7402 tumors transplanted in BALB/c (nu/nu) nude mice, and gene expression in the tumor cells with gene-chip analysis. Results show that YSV significantly inhibits the growth of transplanted human hepatocarcinoma BEL-7402 in nude mice (n = 12) compared with the control group (P < 0.05); with an inhibition rate of 55% at 320 microg/kg/d. Seven hundred eighty-one genes were different between the YSV group and the control group. Fifty-two genes changed in expression level by onefold or more including 37 downregulated genes and 15 upregulated genes. Probably, YSV exhibits a significant antitumor activity by inhibiting the expression of tumor cells histone genes, then damaging tumor cell chromosome and killing tumor cells.

RESUMO

This study aimed to observe the effects of tyroserleutide (tyrosyl-seryl-leucine, YSL) on the survival time of mice transplanted with the ascitic fluid-type hepatocarcinoma H22, as well as the inhibitory effect of tyroserleutide on the human hepatocarcinoma Bel-7402 that was transplanted into nude mice. At doses of 80, 20 and 5 microg/kg/d, tyroserleutide significantly prolonged the survival of mice transplanted with H22 tumor cells, producing survival rates of 89%, 39% and 49%, respectively, which were statistically significantly different from the saline group (P < 0.05). YSL, at doses of 80, 160 and 320 microg/kg/d significantly inhibited the growth of the human hepatocarcinoma Bel-7402 tumor in nude mice, producing inhibition of 40%, 64% and 59%, respectively; this inhibition was significantly greater than that by saline (P < 0.05). HE staining and electron microscopy of the pathological changes of the tumor in nude mice showed that YSL changed the structure Bel-7402 tumor cells that were transplanted into nude mice, and also induced tumor cell apoptosis and necrosis, which could be a mechanism by which YSL inhibits the tumor growth in animal models.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: The tripeptide tyroservatide (tyrosyl-seryl-valine, p-Tyr-Ser-Val-NH(2), YSV) has been shown to have anti-tumor effects on experimental hepatocarcinoma. The study was conducted to evaluate the therapeutic effects of YSV on tumor growth, invasion and metastasis of lung cancers. METHODS: Anti-tumor and anti-metastatic effects of YSV were evaluated in three experimental systems. In C57BL/6 mice, a spontaneous metastasis model of Lewis lung cancer was used to study the anti-tumor and anti-metastasis effects of YSV. A549 human lung carcinoma was used to create an orthotopic model in nude mice to investigate the anti-metastasis effect of YSV. Finally, an in vitro model using the B16F10 melanoma cell line was selected to observe the effect of YSV on adhesion and invasion, and to use immunocytochemistry to assay the expression of ICAM-1. RESULTS: YSV inhibited subcutaneous tumor growth of Lewis lung carcinoma (p < 0.05) and markedly decreased lung metastases in the spontaneous metastasis model of Lewis lung cancer and the orthotopic model of A549 human lung carcinoma. In vitro, YSV reduced adhesion and invasion as well as the expression of ICAM-1 in tumor cells. CONCLUSION: YSV was able to inhibit tumor growth and metastasis in lung cancer.
